I've been building and flying model balloons for over 20 years, and have never know such an exciting time to be involved in the hobby.

There are now more people, more events, bigger balloons, longer flights and better technologies, than at any other time in the sports history.

Welcome to my web site, have a good look around and I hope you will find valuable information, whether you are looking to build a balloon, fly at an event or just want to know more about model ballooning and the people who fly them.

Happy Landings

The third installment of this years envelope development work was completed in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend, and this time its a big one. The balloon smashes the record for size in the AM7 product range which to previously had been held by the original AM7-70 for over 6 years.

The balloons volume is 100m3 or 3531ft3 - Err Neal your going to need a bigger burner :-)

AM7-60 Prototype complete

The first inflation of a balloon, is for me, an exciting time, the culmination of a few weeks work, the extension of conversations, ideas, a few days waiting on weather and an expectation that things will go well.

However a new shape or size is something else. That first inflation is a special moment, the culmination of the design and build process that can take much longer to complete than at times planned.

To be blessed with a sunny day is a bonus at the end of the process - so please welcome `sunrise' the second of three prototypes to role off the AMBalloons production line in quick succession

Dr. Janet Folks

January 2012 marked a low point for myself and fellow balloonists as sadly we all lost a valued friend and member of the ballooning community. Janet was active in the fields of hot air, gas and model ballooning and achieved 50 or so world record.

Her model, marked with The University of Nottingham logo, and know simply as `baby’ by student, colleges and friends will continue to be flown by the university staff in tribute to this inspirational lady.

Farewell Janet

`The Flying Show'

New photo's from this event have now been added to the EVENTS section. thanks to everyone who was able to attend at such short notice.

A Major project draws to a close

I'd like to welcome Steve Cook to the growing number of balloonists in the UK who are taking up model ballooning. Steve has now taken delivery of and AM7-50 and brand new basket and burner system all from AMBalloons.

Steve has waited very patently while the team here developed the project from a basic concept to a fully furnished basket and burner system.

End of Summer Fun

As the British summer had it's final mid autumn fling, the village of Welshpool hosted the now traditional `One Man Meet'. Fellow model balloonist Janet Folks and I shared a Lindstrand 31A demo for the weekend. As darkness fell on the Saturday evening the opportunity arose to float `Ice' my own AM7-70 ZZ around the camp site.
